Revolution is Work

unrelenting
we have no taskmaster
but death
all else is just
to pour our lives
into chiseling away
the edifice of our oppression

Candlespiration

our life is a candle
we burn
we appear on this earth
a small flame
but not all are blessed
sometimes we come into the world
alone
buffeted by torrential rain and howling wind
making the simple task of burning
a question of life or death 
it's a lot to ask of a candle 
a little flame that just wants a little oxygen
to flicker a little light
yet
must endure maelstroms and drownings instead

hold fast, little flame
when the storm breaks
light will crack the sky 
birds will call their sounds of love
the sun will show its face again
little flames can know they survived
and when there was darkness
they were the light
