Poems

the rain stopped

the rain finally stopped in Nanaimo
the comforting sound of raindrops gives way to silence
leaving only the memory of comfort
leaving the onus to fill the silence
to endure the darkness of early morning
knowing the birds will sing
knowing the sun will rise

dreams intact

if you reach a certain age
battered and bruised
body scarred, soul shattered
yet somehow,
hopes and dreams intact
you might finally have to admit
you are an optimistic motherfucker
you might have to accept
you have a positive outlook

carve out the time

life whizzes by
blink and you're older than you thought
we make life full, for good or bad
but we lose track of ourselves
our wants and needs
get mixed up with the living
we lose track of our youthful fascinations
our special skills
our hobbies
until years later
we stumble across a box
hidden in a closet
filled with pieces of our heart
we had forgotten
