Poems

higher zen

the sky opens
streetlamps reveal the downpour
pre-dawn January morning
swiftly, i remember,
rain is far better than snow
my dog is completely unperturbed
by the weather
reminding me there is yet
a higher zen

poets need rain

they say farmers need the rain
poets need rain too
when fascism is too much to think about
when debt is too much to think about
when loneliness is too much to think about
at least sometimes
there is rain
rain to give us pitter-patter beats
distracting our thoughts with sound
irregular natural jazz
reminding us that songs we love
are still to come
